The Visual Arts at AACA

While AACA's Board and volunteers have always worked to provide the community and artists with space and events to view and/or buy the work of local visual artists, we are now able to offer even more opportunities with the opening of our new Arts Center. Following are some of the programs we have or will be offering to promote the visual arts. If you are an artist or craftsperson and would like to be involved in any of the following, we would love to hear from you. Call us at (423) 745-8781.

THE ART MARKET - We offer the only local gallery space dedicated to the display and sale of work by local and regional artists and craftspeople. The display changes frequently and showcases everything from pottery, jewelry, metal sculpture, glass, fiber arts, and woodworking to paintings and prints. All local artists from the surrounding area are welcome to apply for acceptance into the Art Market. The public is invited to view and purchase these fine works.

THE EXHIBITION GALLERIES - Two galleries are available for rotating art exhibits. Check our calendar for current and upcoming exhibits. You may see everything from local student art to traveling exhibitions curated by professionals in their field.

Fall Fest - Athens Area Council for the Arts

FESTIVALS: AACA staff members are usually involved in the planning of the various festivals held downtown and around town, along with members of the Downtown Business Association and other organizations, generally by coordinating the entertainment and crafts portion of these events. The Downtown Fiesta is held the first Saturday in May; Pumpkintown, a Festival of History, Harvest, and Heritage is mid-October; and Old-Fashioned Christmas on the Square is the weekend before Thanksgiving.

STUDIO TOUR: On the first Saturday of November each year, AACA hosts its premier event showcasing the visual arts, the Studio Tour. This is an opportunity for the public to visit local working art studios, meet and talk with the artists, and purchase their work. See the calendar listing for specific information about this years Tour.

CLASSES: With the opening of the new Arts Center, we are now able to offer art and music classes to the public. Offerings are geared for pre-schoolers to the young-at-art, and everybody in between. Check the schedule for upcoming classes. If you are an artist and would like to teach, please contact us.
